With its first airport,Sikkim is now expecting a big fortune in tourism and agricultural development.Completed recently, the new airport is expected to be fully operational from October first week.Spread over 990 acres, the airport is situated at Pakyong was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.It is 4500 feet above the sea level,making it among the five highest airports in the country.
CP Dhakal,Secretary of State tourism and Civil Aviation Department in an interview expressed his happiness on this development saying that this airport has created a sensation among travelers willing to come here as they prefer flights over road transports. He also said this will also enhance the agriculture especially Orchid cultivation as it can now be transported easily to other places.
