An employee working as a sales manager in a fast food joint Burger King in Noida’s The Great India Place was held for cloning of debit cards of customers on Monday last. The accused identified as Sumit, has admitted to cloning consumer’s debit cards and selling the data to a gang.
The man held was working with the American global chain of hamburger fast food restaurants since December last year.
The accused was swiping cards on a skimmer device he had kept with himself.This helped him to save the details of the debit card on his device. The accused was able to read the Personal Identification Number (PIN) of the debit cards he was cloning by using CCTV footage installed right above his counter.
After getting the PIN of the cards, he was selling the data of debit card clonned for a price of about Rs 10,000 – Rs 15,000.
Police officials from Noida Sector 39 arrested the accused on Monday. The officials are now hunting for the gang which used the details of cloned cards from Sumit.
How the offence originated
As said by the Investigating sub-officer J S Tomar, the accused was a resident of Bulandhshahr. The felony started last year in December when he met a man who lured him by offering to pay Rs 10,000 – Rs 15,000. He told the police that he has three sisters and one is to get married on coming March. The man he met had given him the card cloning device to get data.
How the Accused was trapped?
The customers of HDFC bank who visited Burger King started complaining to their bank accountants. A major share of complaints arose from HDFC bank and the last transaction tracked by the bank officials was zeroed in on Burger King. Following this, the police officials enquired at the Burger King outlet and saw Sumit’s activities in the CCTV footage. The Burger King’s senior manager had lodged a complaint in Sector 39’s police station in this matter.
