‘Falcon Capital of the World’ Nagaland to host First ever Amur Falcon Festival

Nagaland Tourism is geared up to observe the first ever Amur Falcon Conservation festival that will commence from November 8 at Doyang in Wokha District of Nagaland.The three day festival will be bring merriment for the tourists visiting the state during this festive period.

Every Year during October to November the Amur falcons fly one of the longest distance from siberia and northern China to reach northeast especially to Nagaland and settling to roost before their final passage to Somalia,kenya and South Africa.These migratory birds travel up to 22,000 kilometer a year.Because of their biggest assembly of nearly one million in Doyang in Nagaland the International Scientists declared Nagaland as the Falcon capital of the World.

This year the three day long falcon festival coincides with Lotha Naga’s ‘Tokhu Emong’ festival which is treated as the post harvest festival.
This falcon festival is aimed to showcase wildlife conservation and fortify the human-nature correlation. Also aims at addressing the alternative and sustainable livelihood opportunities that can be sourced through eco-tourism.

There will be a wide range of outdoor activities to be organized for tourists.Wildlife conservation awareness campaigns, nature treks, cross country race, bird watching ,nature photography contest ,bamboo pole climbing ,catapult shooting are few to name.Also eco-tourism activities such as rural homestays, boating, rock climbing are also in the card to woo tourists to visit in large numbers.
