The occasion is well-known for welcoming the last of the Chinese zodiac’s signs, with families to get together for traditional dinners and behold a marathon televised gala.
In a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle during the Lunar New Year, or spring festival, Hangzhou’s First World Hotel, home to the Yunman Hot Spring, has decorated one of its hot spring pools that looks like one big human hot pot.
Just like a real hot pot, the hotel’s rectangular hot spring is divided into compartments, each one being filled with different green goods such as limes, chilies, lettuce, apples and bananas.
To visitor’s delight, they can even dine inside while taking a plunge into the hot spring.
The concept is quite appealing for the tourists and with a good number, they are happily taking dip inside, enjoying the massive skewers of meat and veggies, that stalled across the hot spring pool-side.
Hot pot is a quite familiar dish in the city of Hangzhou and some others like Chengdu or Chongqing. It is a Chinese cooking method, prepared with a simmering pot of soup stock at the dining table, containing a variety of East Asian foodstuffs and ingredients. While the hot pot is kept simmering, ingredients are put into the pot and are cooked at the table, in a manner similar to fondue.
Hangzhou, the capital city, sitting at the head of Hangzhou Bay, is just a two-hour drive from Shanghai. To its credit, the city is dotted with plenty of natural mountain-fed hot springs, making it a much coveted weekend destination.
