Bahrain’s Underwater Wonder Going To Be World’s Largest Underwater Theme Park

Bahrain, in promotion of ecotourism, plans to open the world’s largest underwater theme park, as revealed by the Personal Representative of His Majesty King Hamad, President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Covering an area of over 100,000 square meters, this dream project will be a joint venture of the Bahrain government entities vizs. , Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and the private sector.

Among its major attractions, a 70-meter long retired Boeing 747 is to be placed at the centre of the site, being the largest aircraft ever to be submerged. In addition the replica of a traditional Bahraini pearl merchant’s house, artificial coral reefs and other sculptures fabricated from eco-friendly material, are to be featured around the aircraft. Again the site will provide an exceptional diving experience to its visitors. Most importantly, keeping its eco-friendly nature in mind, the site is so designed, not to affect the natural coral reef growth and habitats for marine life.

By incorporating the highest international environmental standards the Kingdom is committed to preserve the marine life of this eco-friendly underwater project, making Bahrain a global leader in the field of ecotourism and the preservation of marine wildlife.

This upcoming international tourist attraction will also provide researchers with rich information and data on marine ecology and biology and will be a major boost to the kingdom’s ecotourism sector.

The work is under progress at the diving site, in partnership with the private sector, local dive companies and clubs. Apparently it will open to diving enthusiasts and visitors before the summer of 2019.
