India’s aviation sector with its persistent world-beating growth rate, is going to be a fast emerging aviation power globally. With the annual growth rate of 20 percent, it is the fastest burgeoning aviation sector in the world.
Being positive about its progress, SpiceJet chairman and managing director Ajay Singh on attending the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, has said now it’s time for the country to become a major international hub for connecting flights and its airlines to be a leading global players.
But in defiance of this 20 percent growth, only 3 to 3.5 % of Indian population are using the service, which further laid the scope for a great potential growth ahead, said Singh.
“Of course, the task is not without challenges as always, but the government’s effort in this regard is definitely praiseworthy. With new schemes, building new airports and developing infrastructures, India’s aviation sector is all set to hold a dominant place in the world panorama. Looking back, in the past 75 years, only 75 airports were connected and if plans succeed, India’s aviation sector will witness a two-fold growth in the number of airports just within the next three to four years,” told the chief of Spicejet.
The foremost challenges that the aviation zone is facing, is its high costs. So the chief of SpiceJet said,
“Its turbine fuel costs are high, airport costs are on higher side and airfares are at low, in comparison of the global averages. But these isseus are to be resolved gradually in a few years. In infrastructural ground, currently India has seen a phenomenal growth definitely.”
India with its own inherent massive volume of people who desire to fly, with an ideal strategic geography to connect Europe and Far East Asia and with a huge manpower can throw challenges to its competitors like Dubai, Abu Dhabi and countries like this.
Emphasizing the fact, Singh said, “Providing trained manpower for aviation in terms of engineers and pilots and even cabin crew since we Indians are traditionally of service mentality, we could stand as an ideal hub. In terms of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services and other things we can offer ourselves as a huge exporter of services as well.”
Lastly, commenting on the possibilities of the globalization of Indian airline he said, having so many inherent strengths along with a strong and huge customer base of its own, the enterprise can undoubtedly become global anytime soon.
