Award-winning airline Qatar Airways is the official airline partner for the Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019, marking the establishment of a year-long collaboration that will see both nations jointly celebrate their unique cultural legacies.
Being developed by Qatar Museums, the Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019 will welcome visitors in both Qatar and India to explore their cultural heritage through an exciting array of line-ups that include a array of Qatari-Indian exhibitions, musical performances, fashion, film and artistic events.
Qatar Museums has been hosting year-long cultural exchange programmes every year to promote mutual understanding and beneficial relations between Qatar with rdifferent countries through exhibitions, festivals, competitions and events. They’ve already hosted the programme with Russia, Germany, China, Turkey, Brazil, the UK and Japan.2019 is the year for India when both the countries partnering for their Year of Culture, showing off each other’s history, art and performances. Major events to taking place in India include The Monsoon Wedding musical in January in New Delhi, and a contemporary Art Qatar Exhibition – showcasing Qatar’s rapid, social and urban transformation through the eyes of talented emerging artists from the country.
The first initiative launched is a photography competition where Qatar-based photographers can submit photos and videos about cricket, which is one of India’s favourite sports.
Qatar Airways announced that they would be the official airline partner for this year-long joint celebration of two countries’ cultural legacy. At present the airline flies 102 weekly flights between Doha and 13 destinations in India.
H E Akbar Al Baker, the Group chief executive of Qatar Airways said, “As the Official Airline Partner, Qatar Airways also looks forward to being the bridge between both countries by bringing more travellers from India to Doha, so that they can experience Qatar’s incredible hospitality and cultural heritage all through the year,” says Qatar’s CEO Akbar Al Baker.
The Year of Culture programme which is developed under the patronage of H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, chairperson of Qatar Museums, has continued to grow under her leadership on every passing year.The Qatar-Russia Year of Culture 2018 programme is the largest cultural collaboration celebrated till date.
In Qatar, residents as well as visitors to the country will be able to get pleasure from the Year of Culture experience at the Doha International Book Fair 2019, where India will be the Guest of Honour. Other things to enjoy include an exhibition by Raqs Media Collective, which makes contemporary art, edits books and curates exhibitions, and a ‘Festival of India’ event which will feature a variety of visual arts and performances such as classical dance and music (includes Indian with Western), in addition to cinema and theatre.
The major events to look forward to in India include ‘The Monsoon Wedding’ musical, and a contemporary Art Qatar Exhibition – a landmark exhibition showcasing Qatar’s rapid, social and urban makeover by brilliant budding artists from the country.
