The Uttarakhand government while adding the wings to the center’s UDAN scheme on Wednesday gave the green signal to run seaplanes on Tehri lake. This decision of the state government is seen as part of its plan to build up the Tehri lake as a tourist destination.
The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
A MoU will be signed between the Centre, Uttarakhand government and Airports Authority of India (AAI), as said by the cabinet minister and spokesperson of the government Madan Kaushik.While the state government will provide 2.5 acres of land around the lake for the project, the Centre will contribute 80 percent of the project cost.
Regard as as an engineering wonder, the Tehri dam is the tallest dam in India built on the Bhagirathi river in Uttarakhand. The construction of the dam has created a vast water body, appeared an artificial lake. The state tourism department have arranged various water sports like boating, diving etc at this lake area to promote it as a tourist destination.
Kaushik added, the cabinet also decided to sign an agreement with National University of Singapore to make Dehradun a ‘smart city’.The university will do a year-long study and submit the report to the state.For this project the state government will provide SGD 2,50,000 to the university for the study.
