Visakhapatnam Port bagged the honour as declared the second cleanest in the country

Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has been declared  as the second cleanest among all the major ports in India. The Port received this honour  for the third consecutive year.the port was acknowledged on the basis of sanitation parameters which was organised  in an independent assessment made by the Union Ministry of Shipping.

While Haldia Port tops the list when the award was first set up, then for the subsequent two years New Mangalore Port bagged the top spot in the rankings including the most recent one.

The honours come as a acknowledgment to the Visakhapatnam Port’s solid work carrying out the ‘Swacchta Pakhwada’ programme. Apparently, a number of measures were put into effect to make sure of cleanliness.

The city’s port has been in news for executing mechanisation in key focal areas to lessen the pollution caused. Other green measures put into action by the Visakhapatnam Port Trust include recycling 10 million gallons of sewage water every day, commissioning 10 MW solar power plant and provide the surplus power to the State grid, and construction of  a wall to check the spread of dust particles.

VPT Chairman Krishna Babu updated  that Visakhapatnam Port has been placed in ‘good category’ in performance by Dun & Bradstreet and has also been conferred the first prize in an industrial category as part of AP Green Awards-2017.
