Mahindra Group’s New Venture, a Film Centric Tourism Project Worth INR 1,900 crore, Gets Governments nod

Here is something new for the film enthusiasts as  Maharashtra government has approved a film-centric tourism spot to be developed by the Mahindra Group in a suburb of Mumbai, at an investment  cost of INR Rs 1,900 crore.

This has been conferred with an ultra mega project status by a high-leveled government committee, as it fulfils all the criteria for it. As per the state tourism policy of 2016, for an ultra mega project status, a project requisites a capital investment worth Rs 500 crore, should bring job opportunities for at least 750 people and to be completed within 84 months of time frame.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra had said at the Magnetic Maharashtra investor summit in February, “we were exploring to set up a unique film-centric tourism destination on our land at Kandivali as Mumbai is the base of Hindi film industry. This is surely going to facilitate hundreds with direct and indirect jobs. We are planning to invest Rs 1900 crore for the project.”

It can be marked here that the group already runs a successful tour and leisure services company Mahindra Holidays and this announcement implies that the group is ready to tap tourism and related sectors in a more aggressive manner.

The Government Resolution (GR) has confirmed this Bollywood theme-based tourism project that is  to be developed on Mahindra Group’s own plot in the suburban Kandivali, on  82,950.5 sqm area.

The government has also approved one more ultra mega tourism project to be brought about by Yashomala Farming and Tourism Private Limited in Raigad district of Maharastra, formerly known as the Kolaba district. The project will be constructed up on 63.37 hectare area at Roha. Nearly Rs 822.93 crore have been estimated to be invested in it and about 53 villas are planned to be built. The project will provide employment to 1,014 people, as reported.
