Diyaluma, Sri Lanka’s Most Spectacular Waterfall – a Swimmer’s Paradise

Diyaluma or Diya Haluma waterfall, the second heighest waterfall IN Sri Lanka at the height of 220 meters, is located in Badulla District, in Sri Lanka. The highest one is Bambarakanda waterfall, at the height of 263 meters. Diyaluma, the horsetail fall has also acquired the place of being world’s 361st highest waterfall as well. To reach the spot, the road it takes, is the A4 road or Colombo-Badulla highway.

Positioned at an altitude of 694m above the sea level the fall is just 6 km away from Koslanda, a village in Badulla district.

‘Diyaluma’ the word means “rapid flow of water” or may be translated as “liquid light”.
Poonagala Oya in the vicinity of Koslanda and Wellawaya is the source for the fall.
The road to the waterfall is quite steep with several bridges and some parts of the route are even without any protections or guard rails along its sides.

Diyaluma Waterfall has an amazing viewing point and platform at the bottom. Visitors can enjoy the epic view of the falls and take a swim at the base if they wish to.

The spot is facilitated with with a two-way view. It can be approached either from the top or from the bottom. But this place is not so neat on the top. Since the road to the destination is very steep, one has to be very careful while exploring the place. There are in fact no signboards, safety rails or guards to help. One can take help and guidance of a local. People here are really hospitable and very much helpful. Visitors can rent a car to the place or rented scooters are also available here for a open ride with much much cheaper hire.
