India Updates : The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in India have breached the 50,000-mark and risen to nearly 53,000, all in the last 24 hours.Confirmed cases now stand at 52,952. The death toll from the outbreak in India is at 1,783.
Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi have reported the highest number of cases. Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit coronavirus state in India, has reported over 16,500 cases and 651 deaths. Mumbai alone has more than 10,700 cases.The tally in Gujarat has reached 6,625 with 396 deaths. In Madhya Pradesh, the virus has infected 3,138 cases with 185 deaths while Delhi, the national capital, has reported 5,532 cases and 65 fatalities.
A massive exercise to evacuate Indians stranded abroad also begins today.
There are now six states – Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu – account for close to 75 percent of India’s total cases. Uttar Pradehs is close to the 3,000 mark while Tamil Nadu is close to the 5,000 mark.
Global updates : More than 3.7 million people have been infected by the virus worldwide, of which more than 2,63,000 have died.
