With PM Narendra Modi announcing the extension of the ongoing nationwide COVID-19 lockdown till May 3, Indian Railways announced that it will not resume passenger train services.
Soon after the announcement, the Ministry of Civil Aviation also informed that airline operations of all domestic and international flights will remain suspended till May 3.
Previously, all passenger services were suspended till April 14 midnight. but continued to take bookings for trains scheduled from April 15. With the lockdown being extending till May 3, no passenger train services will operate till that date and passengers will be given a full refund for their train tickets.
Indian Railways stated in its official notification that all passenger train services including Mail/Express trains, premium trains, suburban trains and Konkan Railway shall continue to remain cancelled till 2400 hours on May 3. Though to ensure essential supplies in various parts of the country, movement of goods and parcel trains will continue.
In addition to that counters for booking of train tickets will remain closed both on railway stations and outside the station premises.
PM Modi, however, indicated at easing of lockdown restrictions in places where there is no hotspot after April 20 soon.
