According to A data released by the American Hotel & Lodging Association on Thursday, Florida hotels and businesses that support the hotel industry, have cut almost 400,000 jobs amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The layoffs have come as officials and industry executives close or limit access to hotels, theme parks, beaches, bars and restaurants to contain the fast-spreading of the virus.
Tourism industry of Florida is vital to the state’s economy, producing billions of dollars in state and local taxes each year. According to the association,the hotel industry employs around 950,000 people in the state.
As said by the association on Thursday, it expects 44 percent of hotel employees in every state will lose their jobs “in the coming weeks.”
Meanwhile,as coronavirus fears grip USA and pictures of crowded Florida beaches are going viral, Thursday morning Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he issued an order to limit gatherings on beaches to no more than 10.
