United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will “most likely” be tested for novel coronavirus even though he had displayed no symptoms of virus, contradicting the statement made by his press secretary said just a day before that such testing was unnecessary.
The White House claimed Trump did not require testing after the Brazilian president’s press secretary who was pictured at Florida resort Mar-a-Lago with Mr. Trump on Saturday tested positive for the virus. Mr. Trump had told press earlier this week he wasn’t concerned by that. On Friday in White House Rose Garden press conference, Mr. Trump told media that he would most likely be tested soon for reasons unrelated to that close proximity.
“I didn’t say I wasn’t going to be tested … Most likely, yeah,” The President said on Friday when replying to media. “Not for that reason, but because I think I will do it anyway,” Trump added.
Trump had met Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his press secretary Fabio Wajngarten at his Florida resort.
While Wajngarten tested positive for the virus, Bolsonaro tested negative.
The president added that the tests would be conducted “fairly soon” and they’re working out a schedule for him to be tested.
The president further said he had a great meeting with the president of Brazil, Bolsonaro, great guy, very, very tremendous. Bolsonaro is doing fantastic job for Brazil. He sat with Bolsonaro for probably two hours. He tested negative, meaning nothing wrong happened this morning.
The White House has been working closely with different agencies to make sure every safety measure is taken to keep the first and second Families, and all White House staff healthy.
