A R Rahman to mentor all-female orchestra in Dubai: will perform at Expo 2020

 

The most celebrated international music Composer and songwriter AR Rahman will work with Expo 2020 Dubai to push forward Dubai and the UAE as an international hub for inspiring creativity.He will be the mentor and a composer for the first project — Expo 2020’s new all-female orchestra with a objective to create a world-class music recording studio in the UAE.

The Firdaus (Paradise) Women’s Orchestra which is now the new Firdaus Studio by AR Rahman is set to perform at the Expo 2020, including two AR Rahman concerts, a special show for International Women’s Day on March 8, 2021, plus various other events across the site.

Rahman, has earned many accolades including two Academy Awards and two Grammy Awards, will now put his name to the new world-class Firdaus Studio which is being built on the Expo 2020 site and will become a permanent facility at District 2020.

Most famous for his soundtrack to hit movie Slumdog Millionaire, Rahman rose to his prominence becoming one of India’s best-selling recording artists.

The state-of-the-art Firdaus studio will bring together 50 talented female musicians from across the UAE and wider MENA region to create a distinctive musical project for which the rehearsals will begin in summer 2020.

The orchestra will draw on inspiration from region’s centuries-old rich musical traditions that have used instruments such as the oud, rebaba and darbuka.
