The gates of Taj Mahal will be opened for public in March for three days to mark the three day ‘Urs’ of Mughal emporer Shah Jahan. During this time, the entry of public to the Taj will be free.
As a tradition Urs helds here every year according to the Islamic calendar.This year it will be held from 21 March to 23 March. This is a very rare occasion when visitors will be able to see the real graves of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz located in the basement as it remains closed for rest of the year. The Satrangi Chadar,the symbol of all-religion harmony is the main attraction of Urs.
Shah Jahan’s Urs will begin with Gusl(bath) ritual on 21st March,2020 at noon. Also during the same time, the original tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz’s underground chamber will be opened. Then Ajan and Fatiha will be read. On 22nd March, Sandal will be offered at 2 pm and Milad-un-Navi will be read. Qawwali will last until the Taj Mahal closes on both days.
On 23rd March, after the Kul Sharif in the morning, Qur’an Khwani and Fatiha will be recited. There will be chadarposh all through the day, in which satrangi Hindustani chadar will also be offered. Anchor will be distributed in the Taj complex in the evening.
According to a ASI notification, visitors will be free to enter the Taj Mahal during Urs. Also flag, banner, poster, book, drum more than 36 inches, band banja, lighter, knife etc. will not to go in Urs. For the safety and other arrangements of the Jayareen(devotees) arriving during the Urs, soon instructions will be issued.
