To Woo Tourists, Mumbai soon to start Buckingham Palace-Like Drill: Maharashtra Tourism Minister

Tourists travelling to Mumbai will soon be able to watch the Change of Guard ceremony at the Maharastra police headquarters in Colaba.This ceremonial drill will be on lines similar to the world-famous ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London.So without going to   Buckingham, tourists will now be able to watch a ceremonial drill.

As reported, this ceremony will be open for public to watch every Sunday, beginning 1st May, 2020. The police headquarters, located near the Gateway of India which housed the state legislature in the past, is a major tourist attraction. At present, this activity can be seen only at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi and the Daily Retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah Border.

The announcement was made by Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackerayspeaking at an event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Referring to this drill,he said his states ceremony is very colourful and the Director General of Police’s office will have the ceremonial drill just similar to the one at Buckingham Palace.The government is also planning to allow the tourists to walk through the headquarters of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, which is a heritage structure dating to colonial era.

As said by the state government wishes to develop Mumbai as the Gateway to India. For which a policy on beach shacks would be rolled out within a month.He said, the 700-km long coastline of the state offers immense tourism potential.

Plans are taking place to provide night landing facility at the airport at Shirdi, famous for Saibaba temple and also to create additional parking facility at the Kolhapur airport, Thackeray said.

The state government has also decided to invest Rs 150 crore for upgrading infrastructure in Aurangabad, which is the gateway to tourist attractions such as Ajanta and Ellora Caves, the minister further said.
