Soon after former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik took charge as Goa’s Governor, the palatial Raj Bhavan, which had been in recent times opened for tourists, has been closed to visitors due to “security reasons”.
As per reports, the Tourism department of Goa, which was coordinating the tours to the Raj Bhavan posted a notice on its webpage announcing that Raj Bhavan shall remain closed to visitors for six months owing to terror threats.
Mridula Sinha, the ex Governor of Goa, added Raj Bhavan to the tourism circuit in early 2019. Regular organised tours were allowed for public visitors to get a glimpse of the grand palace, which is located on a hilltop.
Made in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Cabo Raj Bhavan overlooks the Arabian Sea and is spread over 88 acres. Once upon a time it was used as the official residence of top Portuguese administrators.
Soon after administered the oath of office, Malik had said that he was looking for a relaxed and peaceful stint in Goa.
“I have come from Kashmir which is known to be a very problematic place. I have successfully handled all the issues there. Now it (Goa) is a peaceful and good place which has been progressing,” Malik had said.
During his tenure as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Article 370 was abrogated and the state was bifurcated into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
