In an unfortunate incident an unidentified shooter hijacked a mail truck and allegedly opened fire on random people. The tragedy took place in the West Texas cities of Midland and Odessa on Saturday in a brazen daylight.
According to authorities, one unidentified shooter in his mid 30s was shot dead near the Cinergy movie theatre. The shooter was in his 30s. police said three law enforcement officers were also shot.
According to Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said that the incident began at 3:17 pm CT (4:17 p.m. ET) when a Department of Public Safety officer tried to make a traffic stop on a gold Honda, but when the vehicle approached to stop there, the driver shot the officer.
This incidence terrified the two sister cities with a combined population of 263,000 at the start of Labor Day weekend, a couple of months after a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso which killed 22 people.
Police officers and state Authorities have urged the public to get off the highways and use extreme caution.
Greg Abbott,the Governor of Texas described this incident as a senseless and cowardly attack.
The University of Texas campus in Permian Basin advised students, staff and faculty to be more cautious and to shelter in place.
