President Trump has approved a state of emergency declaration for the state of Florida as Hurricane Dorian approaches.
Trump’s actions “authorizes the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to supervise all disaster relief efforts,”as per the statement made by the White House.
Acting FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor said “The clock is ticking right now…Don’t waste time. Prepare yourself and your family.” as the hurricane is going to impact the entirety of Florida,so residents need to be prepared.
According to the the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian is growing stronger and strengthened into a Category 2 storm and is packing maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour.
Forecasters explain that the storm will intensify to dangerous Category 4 storm before making landfall in Florida and other parts of the southeast United States.
Cruise lines continue to change itineraries and alter routes due to the storm. Carnival Cruise Line has adjusted nine sailings, with at least five other voyages possibly impacted in the coming days.
Other cruise lines dealing skipping ports of call or changing their routes that include the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean.
On the other side, all of the major airlines in the U.S. and the Caribbean have issued full travel advisories and are waiving change fees for travelers flying to or from top airports in Florida, including Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Key West, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.
Over the next several days, airports of the region are advising travelers to confirm with their airline before hitting the road to make sure that their flights have not been delayed or canceled.
