An upsurge in travel interest for Greenland is noticed all of a sudden, after US President Donald Trump’s bid to buy the country has come forth.
Travel companies along with the country’s government-funded tourism board have marked a notable spike of over 200 percent in web traffic on Greenlandpages over the last weekend.
The sudden focus on the small country is raised after President Trump showed his interest in buying the country. So far Greenland is an autonomous island that comes under the kingdom of Denmark and is spotted between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans. This small island country is dependent on Danish economic support. It handles its own domestic affairs while Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen takes care of its defence and foreign policies. The island happens to be one of the bases for American military resources for a number of years.
Responding to US President’s proposal, the Denmark officials said that Greenland is not for sale and that the offer was absurd. But the entire case in turn has raised interest among travelers far and wide, which appears to be a good news for the country.
Greenland’s queering political symbolism to control of a vast supply of minerals on the island, has attracted not only US but several other countries, such as China and Russia and other members of the Arctic Council (of which Canada is also a member) at times.
But according to the latest development, President Trump is not going to buy Greenland for the United States. Instead, under his watch, the State Department may try to expand its diplomatic presence there, by opening a U.S. embassy on the island for the first time in decades.
Coming to the tourism industry of Greenland, the nation is one of the few places left on Earth that can be described as truly remote and wild. Hosting Icebergs tower instead of skyscrapers, and tiny settlements on the coastline, still relying on fishing for livelihood, the tourism industry of the nation is in fact in its infant stage.
