The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is banning some 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold by Apple between September 2015 and February 2017 from flights. The order, issued by DGCA chief Arun Kumar, pertains to flyers on both domestic and international flights from the country.
The regulatory body has asked flyers in India to not carry certain models of Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops on flights in the country as these laptops have been deemed fire hazard because their batteries may overheat and can pose a safety risk.
Eralier this year in june, Apple itself had recalled these laptops back, because of issues with their batteries.
So the banned MacBook Pro laptops will neither be allowed in checked-in baggage nor in hand-baggage till they have their battery replaced or they have been deemed safe by Apple.
Following the Apple announcement , the American Federal Aviation Administration which is aviation regulator in the US, had banned the recalled MacBook Pro laptops from flights. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency also asked airlines to take measures towards this.
