Amazon inaugurates its biggest global campus in India

The largest e-commerce platform Amazon inaugurated its world’s largest campus building in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The new campus is the only company-owned office building outside the US and is the single largest building globally. This campus is spread over  9.5 acres and costing “hundreds of millions of dollars.This will house over 15,000 employees of its over 62,000 employee base in India.

The new campus building was inaugurated by Mohammed Mahmood Ali, MLC, Minister of Home, Prisons, Fire Services, Govt. of Telangana on behalf of state chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

“The investment to create an office of this size indicates that we are going to continue to grow,” Amazon India SVP & country manager Amit Agarwal told during the media queries on Wednesday. He expressed thanksto  the Government of Telangana for its investment-friendly policies and continued support that  helped Amazon to grow in the state. 

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has committed of over $5 billion investment for India operations as the company seeks to fend off competition from Walmart Inc’s e-commerce platform Flipkart.

Last Year, India modified regulations around foreign direct investment in e-commerce, adding to obstacles for Amazon and Flipkart.

Amazon has started its India operations in 2004 from Hyderabad, but launched  retail operations n 2013.

At present Amazon exports Indian products of over 50,000 registered sellers through its global selling platform, and anticipates to surpass $5 billion in exports in coming  three years from over $1 billion so far, he said.
