The global warming trend is increasingly disrupting our climate resulting in uprising average temperatures worldwide. To save the mankind from its adversities, scientists are frantically in quest of remedies for it. To their success, one of their recent findings has turned the city roads of Doha, the capital of Qatar, blue !
No, this not any sort of chemical reaction, but the city administration has deliberately began painting the roads blue, to resist the effects of extreme heat.
Explaining it, one Doha city engineer said, “It’s because black attracts and radiates heat, the temperature of dark asphalt is 20 degrees Celsius higher than the actual atmospheric temperature.”
By getting a coat of paint on it, will help in reducing the asphalt’s temperature by 15-20 degrees. Again, with less temperature, the service life of the coating will also improve.
To start the project work, one of Doha’s greenery-less central place has been chosen where the temperature can rise to 50 degrees Celsius. At present, roads are painted only on one of the central streets of the city.
