CCD owner found dead, body recovered from Netravati River after 36 hours

After gone missing under suspicious circumstances on monday night en route Karnataka’s Mangaluru, the founder of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD VG Siddhartha has been found dead. Siddhartha’s body was finally recovered around 6:50 am today morning. As per latest report, Siddhartha’s body has been sent to Wenlock Hospital for postmortem.

Siddhartha  was missing from the Netravati dam site in Karnataka since Monday evening. His driver said he got off from his car near a bridge in Kotekar on the Netravati River near Mangalore around 6.30 pm on Monday and did not return. After long time of waiting as Siddhartha did not return, his driver tried to look for him but to no avail. “We found the body early morning today. It needs to be identified, we have already informed the family members. We are shifting the body to Wenlock Hospital. We will continue further investigation,” said Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil.

Siddhartha, who is also the Chairman and Managing director of the Coffee Day Enterprise Limited (CDEL) – the holding company of all his companies  wrote a letter to the CCD Board of Directors saying that he fought for long but finally gave up.He is the son-in-law of former Karnataka CM and former Union Minister of Foreign Affairs SM Krishna.

VG Siddhartha’s family has been in the business of coffee plantation for around 140 years. He earned a Masters from the Mangalore University and joined JM Financial Limited in 1983-1984 in Mumbai as a management trainee/intern in Portfolio Management and securities trading.

Siddhatha launched CCD with its first stre at Bangalore’s  brigade road.The largest coffee chain of India currently has 1700 cafes,48,000 vending mechines ,532 kiosks and 403 ground coffee selling outlets across the country.
