The Time Limit Of Issuance Of Indian Passport Reduces While Tatkal Passports Can Be Availed Just Within A Day

To fly to the foreign countries has now becomes less time consuming for Indian citizens since the country’s Government has reduced its normal passport issuance time to 11 days and tatkal passports will be issued just within a day. The step has been taken by the Central Government of India to make foreign tours even easier for the souls on board.

The official website of Passport Seva, Consular, Passport and Visa Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, further says, Tatkal Passports, which do not require any police verification – excluding the date of submission of application – can be issued within one working day. Tatkal passports, which need a police verification  can be issued on the third working day excluding the date of submission of application on a basis of post-passport issuance – where police verification will be done after the issuance of the passport.

Earlier the time limit was fixed to 30 days for issuance of new passports from the date of submitting the required documents to the Passport Seva Kendra and to obtain Tatkal passorts it used to take 1 week time.

According to India’s Passports Act 1967, its central government can issue different types of passports and travel documents such as Ordinary Passport, Official Passport, Diplomatic Passport, Emergency Certificate and Certificate of Identity for the purpose. Obtaining any one of these valid documents  is mandatory for visiting a foreign country.

The government, apart from hastening its procedure of issuing passport, has also launched an application in 731 police districts for police verification of applicants, in order to stop corruption and reduce delays in obtaining passports. Announcing this in the Lok sabha, the Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said that at present there are 36 passport offices, 412 post office passport seva kendras and 93 passport seva kendras in India and all of them are under governmental operation.

To avail the facility applicants have to visit https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/downloadEFormStatic. All the proceedings for obtaining a passport should be done online only and no printed copy of the e-form will be accepted by the center. To open and fill these
e-forms, make sure that the desktop or laptop that you are using must have the latest version of Acrobat Reader (9 or above).
