In an ill-fated accident, a SpiceJet technician died today in a freak accident while carrying out regular maintenance work on an aircraft at Kolkata airport, officials said.
According to the information, at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata around 1.45 am on Tuesday night, the 26 year old technician Rohit Pandey, lost his life when the landing door accidentally got closed and he got stuck there during the repair of SpiceJet aircraft. Later, his dead body was separated from the aircraft with the help of fire brigade.
Officials at the airport described the incident as a “freak accident”. The technician got trapped in the landing gear door of the aircraft while carrying out maintenance work.
An early probe revealed that he died after being suffocated. SpiceJet’s response on the incident was awaited.
The accident follows a week of runway excursions and incidents involving SpiceJet aircraft, which has put the airline under DGCA scanner. Previously, the DGCA had issued four show-cause notices to the airline on poor training standards last week.
