Indian Railways, To Launch ‘Entertainment-on-Demand’ Facility Onboard, First Time In Its History

In order to make the train journey memorable and to give an experience similar to that of an international flight, Indian Railways, has come up with an ‘Entertainment-on-Demand’ (EoD) facility for passengers through an in-coach video and audio streaming platform. For the first time, the initiative is being introduced in the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) in Patna district of Bihar state.

With this, the passengers, while on their journey, will now be  facilited with audios and videos of their own choices. They can chose from a vast digital library and the best part is that, the facility will be completely free of cost for the entire journey.

After the process is being tried at Danapur divisional HQ, Sanjay Kumar Prasad, the Spokesperson of the Division said: “Such entertainment facility can be availed by passengers on board initially in eight selected long journey express trains including the Patna-New Delhi Rajdhani through  devices like laptop, smart mobile phones using local wireless connectivity within the coaches without wasting any data”.

According to Prasad, by this month, the said facility will be made available for use in the Rajdhani express and the Sampooran Kranti express and the remaining six other express trains wiil be featured with it by August 15 this year.

Keeping all age groups in mind Indian Railway has set this EoD facility ; like for elderly passengers there will be devotional songs, movies, artis, bhajans and for kids, videos and audios on culture, general awareness, education and other healthy information will be available.

General public will have the advantage of choosing from a digital hub of around 7000 Bollywood, Hollywood new and old movies and 12000 different programs under various subjects of interest.

The six express public transports that are specified to have the facility from August are:
* Patna-Mumbai Suvidha express
* Patna-Bandra Humsafar express
* Patna-Kota Express-I
* Patna-Howrah Jan Shatbdi express
* Patna-Ranchi Janshatbdi express
* Patna-Kota express-II.

All exercises regarding this are in final stage. After launching, what it awaits is the public review. “If everything goes well, it can be considered to provide this facility in 70 other mail and express trains of the division in future”,  said Prasad.
