With A Remarkable 111% Growth India Emerges As A Major Destination For Medical Tourism

For years, India, as a destination has not only been projected with its enjoyable sights and varied culture but its healthcare and medical treatments have also been acknowledged. Now the country is quickly moving ahead in the way of developing as a major destination for medical tourism. The credit goes to its excellent medical services that are on par with developed countries at 1/10th the cost. Study says, Medical tourism in India has shown an exceptional growth of 111 per cent in the last few years. When we go through the data provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it shows, in the year 2015, 2.33 lakh foreign tourists visited India for medical purposes, in 2016, with a remarkable growth the count surged upto 4.27 lakh and again the number increased in 2017 with a count of 4.95 lakh.

Seeing the positive growth in the sector, the Ministry of Tourism has also taken various steps to boost medical tourism in the country. For instance it has expanded the scope of e-visas for medical visits. To ease the visa regime in the country, the government launched e-tourist visas in 2014 which was being followed by the introduction of Medical and Medical Attendant Visa for the tourists seeking medical help in the country.

Adding to it, the ministry launched multiple campaigns, road shows and ‘Know India Seminars’, under the ‘Incredible India campaign’ along with social media promotions.
The Indian Government also launched a healthcare portal that provides comprehensive information to foreign travellers about the top healthcare institutions in the country in various languages.

Besides all this, better facilities are likely to increase the influx of tourists to the country in this year. For tourists’ cognizance, the top five medical tourism spots in India are :
1.Chennai:
This southern Indian state, better known as the health capital of India, receives nearly 200 international patients for a bone marrow transplant, cardiac bypass, eye surgery, hip replacement and alternative medicine treatments. The city has made its mark all over for its high-quality treatment.

While in the city for medical reasons tourists can rejuvenate themselves by taking an escape to the famous Marina Beach or strolling through Thalankuppam Pier. Some more tourists spots like Guindy National Park, Queens Land can also be explored.

2.Mumbai:
Except for known as the financial capital of the country, Mumbai also boasts of as the fastest growing medical tourism destination in India.

The city has several super specialty hospitals, Research and Diagnostic center for orthopaedic and weight loss surgeries. Mumbai is famous for its cosmetic surgery and Ayurveda treatments as well. To energize its tourists, the city has some beautiful beaches around and many other tourist attractions including the Gateway of India.

3.Goa:
Goa has always been a favorite receational place for foreign tourists and it is now becoming a hub for medical tourism too. Goa’s therapeutic environment,  and Government’s support to promote health and wellness have helped it to develop as a desired medical centre. Apart from the medical helps, tourists may find Goa’s stunning beaches and Bonda Wildlife Sanctuary very appealing and rejuvenating.

4.New Delhi:
Numerous fantastic private hospitals are being mushroomed in the national capital which offer special facilities to foreign patients including packages for General surgery, Eye Surgery, Heart Care, and Neuro Surgeries.

Tourists who have arrived for medical treatments in the city can also relish at the spots like Jama Masjid, or Lotus Temple.

5.Ahmedabad:
Ahmedabad is a new addition in this catagory and is a fastest growing medical tourism destination too. Its hospitals have world-class amenities, so is prefered by a lot of non-residents.

Asia’s largest Civil Hospital – SAL hospital and some others are located here. Its seren lakes are absolutely refreshing for body and soul.
