Kimberly Sue Endicott,an American tourist from Southern California and her tour guide, who were kidnapped in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park on Tuesday, have been rescued by security forces and both were in good health, confirmed by government spokesperson of Uganda Ofwono Opondo.
“Both were rescued from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and are safely back in Kanungu district in Uganda,” as said by the spokesperson Opondo on Sunday. “They are back at the lodge and she is expected to be in Kampala tomorrow.”
Opondo said when law enforcement, police and army started moved in, the kidnappers fled the scene of the rescue.
Ugandan police said Endicott was visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park alongside Congolese guide Jean Paul Mirenge while on a game drive on Tuesday evening and were abducted at gunpoint by four men who used her cellphone to contact authorities and frequently demanding a $500,000 ransom.
Four other people were also taken at the same time along with American Endicott, but all the four freed while Endicott and her driver were taken from the park, officials said.
