In a bid to make its campus pollution-free and maintain the health of teachers and students, the Parul University in Gujarat has banned petrol and diesel vehicles within the campus.The authorities have also introduced the bicycle as the only means of transport.According to sources,to realize its goal of a cleaner and greener campus the university has introduced 100 bicycles at the first stage with 4 stands across the campus.
As per report, the riders can rent a bicycle at a minimal cost on hourly-basis or for days, weeks or months, as per their convenience. As per the rules, no one is allowed to drive their vehicles inside the campus. Once inside the campus, everybody including the teachers, students, and staff have to paddle their way up to their departments or they can opt to travel on foot.
The Chairman of Parul University Devenshu Patel told the media that their campus is spread over 120 acres and the staff and students many times complain that it takes a lot of time travelling from one point to another within the campus.
He further added that they got the proposal from the hexi bikes and have introduced 100 bicycles at the initial stage.
