Goa is a dream destination for millions and you can find hardly any Indian who doesn’t have a desire to visit Goa at least once in his/her lifetime. Now is perhaps a good time to stop dreaming about lazing on the beaches of Goa having a beer in hand. Goa Government is geared up to put into operation the new fine rules which will give cops the liberty to fine individuals up to INR 10,000 for drinking at public places such as highways and beaches. The Goa cabinet has approved the new, stringent rule which says a fine of Rs2,000 or a jail term of up to three months if violating the rules. Those committing the offence in groups will be docked Rs10,000 each. The law is possibly to be formally passed over the coming two weeks.
“Nobody can drink alcohol on our beaches and tourist places any more. Bottles cannot be carried there. Food also cannot be cooked in open. All these offences will attract a fine of Rs 2,000. If the fine not paid, then an offence can be registered. The offender can be arrested and imprisoned for three months,” said tourism minister of Goa Manohar Ajgaonkar on Thursday.
After getting a number of complains over the year about drunkards, at last the Goa Government has introduced a Bill on Monday that purposes “No Alcohol Consumption Zones” for the state. The Chief Minister of Goa, Laxmikant Parseka himself introduced the bill which imposes a fine amount between INR 1,000 – 10,000 for guilty individuals in a “No Alcohol Consumption Zone”.
