The aviation department brings something good for the Keralites now. The expats of Kerala who travel frequently, will soon be availed with discounts on airfares to any foreign location. Norka-Roots, a public sector undertaking of the Non-Resident Keralites (NRK) Affairs Department, is bringing this for the people of Kerala by negotiating the affair with some prominent air carriers, like Emirates, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways, Indigo and others.
K Varadarajan, vice-chairman, Norka-Roots worded, “ Soon we are going to sign a pact with Qatar Airways. Negotiations with Emirates, Kuwait and Indigo are in progress with a good pace.” Norka had entered into a pact in August 2018, with Oman Air which assured seven per cent cut in airfare for their travel to or from India.
Similarly Qatar Airways is offering a ten percent discount, which is being applicable to the returning fair even, once Norka and Qatar Airways enter into an agreement, said Varadarajan. NRKs, who are possessing the identity card issued by Norka, can enjoy the offer.
Further, about the negotiations, Varadarajan said, “We didn’t have the space for bargaining, so far our agreement with Oman Air is concerned. Since Qatar Airways is willing to provide a 10 per cent discount, it will be good if others to follow it.”
Norka-Roots CEO Harikrishnan Namboothiri said for now, discussions were mainly being held with airlines offering services to Gulf countries. NRK Affairs Department believes those expats who travel three to four times in a year, will be the sole beneficiaries of this airfare cut.
