Indian Railways Network is undergoing massive transformations these days. In an attempt to enhance and make progress, Indian Railways is discussing the options of allowing private operators to run passengers as well as freight trains across the country.
As per reports, a senior official of the Railway Board has confirmed the news that private players may be considered to improve the train operations and develop the national transporter’s infrastructure in the country. Recently, in a meet of senior railway officials, several plans have been discussed regarding this.
Train operations across the world, is improving with significant passenger amenities and several changes are being introduced for this time to time. Girish Pillai, a senior member of Railway Board for Traffic, said that the role of the private players in the sector, whether they could be allowed to fix fares and construct terminals was discussed in the meet of senior officials of the Railway Ministry and various experts. Here, Pilai emphasized on the fact that separating the freight sector and passenger services of the railway network will make the thing more systematic.
Before it, in order to enhance the infrastructure of the railway service across the country, the sector introduced a new portal called “Rail Sahyog” and invite private firms to contribute to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for modernising passenger amenities. It was launched by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, a few months back. That’s not all, in order to renovate 600 railway stations from all over the country, Indian Railways also entertained private enterprises to shoulder the responsibility, last year itself.
