On visiting India’s new and world’s tallest monument, the ‘Statue of Unity’ in Gujarat’s Kevadiya yesterday, Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu, said, it is a proper tribute to the ‘Iron man of India’, which India’s historical narratives used to miss for these many days. Constructed at a cost of Rs 2,989 crore, the 182-metre sculpture with its prodigious architectural, justifies the amount spent on it.The statue is the replica of the yesteryear’s freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Further the Vice President, said, “There is only a small part of Patel’s role and contributions in the freedom fight was recorced. This Statue of Unity is a strong reminder of the vision, courage, capabilities and contributions of Sardar Patel in the making of modern India.”
Speaking in favor of the expenditure done for the making of the statue, Naidu said, “the amount spent on erecting it, was worth it and it is a priceless investment”.
Appreciating the initiative taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build the statue and said it is emblematic and stands as a reminder to uphold unity among Indians.
Sardar Patel served the nation as the first deputy prime minister and home minister. Naidu mentioning his contributions to the country, opined, if Patel’s words would have been taken into consideration, by the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, the after war scenario of 1962 Sino-India war could have been different. Further he indicated that how patel played major role in maintaining the integration of the 565 self-governed states that existed at the time of Independence.
The grandeur of the dreams and visions of this man should not only be acknowledged by the people of India but should be realised across the world. So the creation of such a phenomenal statue is worth doing. The place where it stands, now becomes one of the country’s top tourist spots and is now attracting around 30,000 people every day.
