Kempegowda International Airport of Bengaluru has recently been introduced with a new taxi service – ‘Go Pink Cabs’, that is led totally by women. In a bid to make the long trek (from the airport to the center of city), more convenient for the women travellers, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corp (KSTDC) and Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) have collaboratively launched the service. Initially the service is being started with 10 taxis on an experimental basis and all are driven by women drivers. It is a 24×7 service and its customers will be charged Rs21.50/km during the day (6am-11.59pm) and Rs 23.50/km at night (12am-6am). The same course, when compared with that of an Uber ride, costs the travellers Rs8/km. The service is solely for the women; solo traveler, a group of ladies can opt for a pool ride here at ‘Go Pink Cabs’.
Speaking about the drivers of the ‘Go Pink Cabs’, being quite competent and they are fluent in several languages, very much acquainted with the streets of the city and can provide a convenient ride to their customers. Apart from these they are trained in self-defense as well. The vehicles they drive, are featured with GPRS system and an SOS switch for emergency use. In future, depending upon passenger feedback and need, the srevice will expand its fleet.
Although, by private organizations, such service had been tried many a times before, at some places in the country, but did not succeed. Primary reason was lack of lady drivers and long working hours required in this business. However at Kempegowda International Airport, it is doing well. Apart from this special service, Uber, Ola, Karnataka Taxi, MegaCabs and Meru Cabs, are among the other taxi services that are available at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
