As we know pretty well,it is quite common with Indian Rail passengers coming late at the railway stations and racing behind the running train to get on board. But if the recent plan of Indian Railways boarding rule come into effect, these practice won’t work out any longer. So its advisable that you should better begin practicing reaching railway stations in advance well ahead of scheduled departure time.
While in airports one need to come hours in advance before boarding their flights, but here railway passengers need not come hours in advance, but at least 15-20 minutes before the departure time to make sure that they are not late because of the security process,” Kumar said. The national transporter is setting up to seal stations to complete the security checks similar to how airports function, before trains depart.
The security plan – with high-end technology – under the Integrated Security System (ISS) that approved back in 2016 to reinforce the surveillance mechanism at 202 railway stations and has already been in place at Prayagraj, in anticipation to pull a big crowd those who use rail for Kumbh Mela that begins this month and also at Hoobly railway station in Karnataka with a blueprint for 202 more stations ready for implementation, Director General Arun Kumar, Railway Protection Force said.
Focus would be to seal the railway stations, mostly to identify openings and to find out how many can be blocked. While some areas to be closed through permanent boundary walls, others to be manned by RPF personnel and the rest left will have collapsible gates,Kumar said.
The ISS will consist of CCTV cameras, access control, bomb detection and disposal system, personal and baggage screening system which together endow with multiple checking of passengers and baggage starting from entry point in the station premises till boarding of train. The estimated cost of the ISS project figures out at Rs. 385.06 crore.
“The security plan also considering a layered security check to scrutinise even before the passengers entering the station premises at peak hours,” Mr Kumar said.
This will comprise a real-time face recognition software that can alert the RPF command centre of any known offenders.
