Pod hotels or popular as capsules in foreign countries, are basically a kind of accommodation facility that although being small rooms measuring 5ft by 7ft, are equipped with all essentials of modern days. Each pod will have its own television set, a personal locker, sliding doors, USB ports, light controls smoke detectors and power sockets. This is not, the hotel will be featured with Wi-Fi connection, a lounge area, changing areas, washroom and cafeteria as well.
According to the IRCTC spokesperson Pinakin Morawala, Indian Railways is planning to set up 30 pod hotels in its first phase on trial basis near Mumbai Railway station. If it becomes successful, then this concept will be made available in other cities of India also.He said generally the rate for a pod is around Rs 2500, but it’s too early to come to a decision on how much IRCTC will charge.
