Indian Doctor saves life of a co-passenger mid-air, proven to be a godsend: Honoured by Air France

A sixty-nine-year-old Indian  doctor, Dr Prabhulingaswamy Sanganalmath, from Mysuru, Karnataka has now adorned the news headlines for his noble deed as he saved the life of an elderly European traveller, mid-air, in one of the flights of Air France.

Prabhulingaswamy Sanganalmath, a retired government physician, who runs a family clinic at Kuvempunagar, Mysuru, karnataka, was on the Air France flight from Paris to Bengaluru  on Nov.13, when one of his co-passengers a senior citizen from Europe collapsed. His condition deteriorated as his heart beat couldn’t be found.

As the only doctor on board, Dr. Sanganalmath extended his services to the worried cabin crew who was in urgency of immediate medical assistance. Fortunately, there was also a nurse who along with the doctor helped the passenger and recovered him by giving him a cardiac massage – the standard process of trying to resuscitate a  patient.

Narrating the incident, the doctor said, ”The air hostesses brought the emergency health kit and oxygen cylinder and helped in carrying out the oxygen supplemented resuscitation. Slowly after a couple of hours, the patient came to his normalcy, started speaking and drank juice . During the journey he was under observation and was immediately taken to the airport clinic for further treatment after the flight landed in Bengaluru.”

The flight captain and the cabin crew came to Dr. Sanganalmath and expressed their gratitude for the help. The next day Dr. Sanganalmath also got a thanks message from Vincent Feuillie of Air France Passenger Medical Service for his  medical assistance. The airline has also offered him a voucher worth 100 Euros as a token of appreciation.
