Search giant Google acquired Bangalore-based Sigmoid Labs, the company that owns India’s highest rated travel app, “Where is my Train”, that works even without internet connection.The terms of the deal has not disclosed yet, though media report reveals the price for deal is estimated to be US$30-40 million. The acquisition was part of Google’s ‘Next Billion Users’ initiative.
Announcing the acquisition Sigmoid Labs said , “We’re excited to share that Sigmoid Labs, the team behind the “Where is my train” app, is joining Google. We are with a mission to help bring technology and information into millions of Indian travellers.’’The app runs in 8 languages for commuter’s convenience.

‘Where is My Train’ a unique train app is for android that displays live train status such as arrival,departure of trains,availability of seats and reservation status and most significant part is it works offline without needing internet or with poor connectivity.It has many useful features like destination alarms and a speedometer.The aap has 10 million registered users as it claims.
Sigmoid Labs was founded in the year 2017 by five former executives of TiVo Corporation.The startup consists of 10 people and is based out of Bengaluru and post the acquisition it will join the company and will continue to work on the app.It claims more than 10 million downloads on Google’s play store.
For Google, which has so far acquired nearly 229 companies, globally, Sigmoid Labs is the second Indian startup acquired by it till date.
