‘Statue of Unity’ management faced anger of tourists as large number of tourists were not able to see the viewing gallery waiting even for three to four hours in long queue.Most of them even demanded refund of their ticket price.
Each elevator in the Statue of Unity can carry 26 passengers and cover the distance of 153 meters in just 30 seconds.When one of the two high speed elevators stopped working ,the queues became longer irking the visitors as the other elevator was not enough to handle the large crowd at a time.The similar chaos happened on 2nd and 4th December for faulty of lifts annoying the visitors.
Collector of Narmada District and CEO of SoU IK Patel, who rushed to the site to handle the situation, said “The Mumbai-based company which has installed these elevators has been contacted and they will be sending technicians immediately. The hurdle will be resolved soon.’’
In recent times, there has been a flow in the number of tourists visiting the site. The world’s tallest statue, which is dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel stands tall in a river valley in Gujarat’s Narmada district, is rapidly becoming one of the country’s top tourist attractions drawing about 30,000 people every day,according to media reports. Statue of Unity will boost Gujarat tourism resulting 7.5 crore visitors per year by 2020 as expected.
