Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport & Highways and Water Resources Nitin Gadkari has announced a series of projects to bump up the tourism potential of Mumbai and its port areas.Minister launched Mumbai’s two large set-up floating restaurants – Queensline See Yeah and Queensline Neverland. Each of these floating restaurants will have a capacity to carry 400 diners at a time.
Ministers announcement also includes the country’s longest ropeway which will cover a distance of 8 km over the Arabian Sea, from Sewri in South Mumbai to Elephanta Island.
To catch the attention of international travellers and to pull more foreign tourists towards the state, Mumbai Port Trust is planning to undertake new developments replicating the famous tourist hotspots around the world, including Interlaken in Switzerland and Singapore. Building top-notch amusement facilities such as Ro-pax, Skating rink, events bay, sea-side amphitheatre, and seaside terminal at Marina Dock includes some of the MbPT new eastern water front development plan.
Gadkari also announced about the launching of water taxies between domestic cruise terminal and new Navi Mumbai airport,that would reduce the pressure on the city traffic because of tourist inflow.
He also has inventive plans to bring in bio fuel such as methanol in marine shipping, which would significantly cut down the transportation costs.
