Mumbai, being the largest city of India, famed as the financial capital of the nation, has embraced many points of tourist interest within and around. Besides which, 10 kilometers away, there is the Elephanta island that holds ancient cave temples of exquisite architecture, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva .
So far ,to visit this ancient heritage there is the only route available is the sea route, starts from Gateway of India. From Mumbai it takes close to an hour for ferries to reach the place and bad weather conditions brings operations to a halt.
Although the ferry ride is an incredible experience in itself, it would be a smart thought to have another choice ready, particularly if that alternative causes you spare an amazing measure of time. This alternative is to construct a ropeway between Mumbai and Elephanta island. The key attraction in the Island is the two-day Elephanta Cultural Festival, which has been observed every year in winter for last three decades by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation .
The central government has undertaken this hercules task of making a 8-km, the longest ropeway and it is going to be India’s first ropeway across the Arabian sea and the best part is that it will take only 14 minutes to reach from Mumbai to Elephanta.
Further he added that the fare of a ropeway for every km is less expensive than that for a Metro. According to him the administration is not going to provide any support to the ropeway venture as it is a beneficial endeavour. The parties who are investing for the project, should produce the framework in India which will result in lower tolls ultimately.
This longest of the country ropeway project has been taken up by the Mumbai Port Trust, and is supposed to be ready for public use by 2022.
