Diwali,the most blissful and popular festival of lights is all observed in India and followers of many faith across the world on Wednesday.
To commemorate the festival and show solidarity towards India, United Nations Postal Administration has released a Special stamp this October. The stamps on this sheet have the symbols of light – diyas, on them and a lot of lights in the backdrop.
Each sheet contains 10 stamps of denomination of USD 1.15. Each stamp has varied earthen lamps or diyas that are considered to be sanctified. United Nations building was also featured in the sheet illuminated with green and blue colours exhibiting a message, ‘Happy Diwali’ written on it.The stamps are now available to purchase online at https://unstamps.org/shop/diwali/.
India has expressed its gratitude to the UN Postal Administration for honouring its celebration in such a substantial way by issuing special postal stamps to rejoice Diwali, the Indian festival of lights.
On Tuesday last India’s Permanent Representative Syed Akbaruddin tweeted thanking the UN Postal Agency for portraying India’s common quest for the victory of Good over Evil in its 1st set of Diwali stamps on the occasion of the gifted Festival of Lights.”
In October 2016 the United States Postal Service (USPS) had released a stamp honouring the festival of Diwali. After a long seven years of endeavour and sincere backing from Indian-American community and several Congressional resolutions by powerful American lawmakers such as Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney,the USPS Diwali stamp came into being.
