The Seychelles has been awarded another 14,840 squarebkilometers of an extended continental shelf in its Northern Plateau region in the central
Indian Ocean by the United Nations in New York. It is 92 times bigger than the size of the main island of Mahe and follows the current 400,000-square-kilometre area jointly managed with Mauritius and which is larger than Germany.
The area consists of seabed and subsoil which are about 92 times the size of Mahé including its surrounding reclamations that can be useful due to the presence of potential natural resources. Seychelles officially received the confirmation on August 31.It was its permanent mission with the UN which earned it the reward. This could really help the place get a substantial boost in tourism.
