Joburg Tourism celebrates Tourism month this year by opening a new visitor information center (VIC) and an updated,fresh website and a mobile app.The objective of the Tourism unit is to promote Johannesburg and making it the number one African destination of choice for both business and leisure.It aims in improving seasonality,the diversity of tourism and build a positive image in local,national and international levels.The new VIC is situated in the most iconic part of the country providing an ideal place for both business and leisure.
“According to the Liberty Group report (Two Degree, released on 06/09/2017), Sandton has an annual average foot traffic in excess of 24 million, hence it serves as the perfect location for the new VIC,” says Cllr Leah Knott, MMC for Economic Development at the City of Johannesburg. By far, the city’s ten priority implementation guides the Joburg tourism’s operations.Two of them namely 5% economic growth and job creation which would reduce unemployment upto 20% is contributed by the tourism department.
