Seaplanes might soon be a reality in Odisha

Till now we have seen this either in some Hollywood movies or in some luxury island resorts only, but soon we are going to experience it live in our country. We are talking about the seaplane service, since now-a-days this has become an unlikely buzzword in Odisha and some other states in India as well.
As reported by the authorities, the Civil Aviation Ministry has affirmed a proposition for introducing of water aerodromes in the country, with Chilika Lake in Odisha, Sardar Sarovar Dam and Sabarmati River Front in Gujarat being distinguished in the principal stage for improvement of such projects. The proposition was approved by Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu already.

“Chilika Lake in Odisha, Sardar Sarovar Dam and Sabarmati River Front in Gujarat have been recognized for advancement of water aerodromes in the first phase,” the authority said.

Locales in Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh have been distinguished by the Airports Authority of India. Since there is no authentic information available and request from any airlines, the task will be done as a pilot venture, the ministerial office said. The improvement would set forth for amphibian planes (both in land and water) to upgrade air connectivity. These water aerodromes would be set up close to tourist spots and areas of religious significance according to the proposition.

Despite the fact that these seaplanes are little costlier to operate than small land aircrafts; and some of have also raised the issue that it is going to affect the environment and the marine life, let’s see how far it proves itself beneficiary to the citizens.
